A smile transformed her face. It was the first true, unrestrained smile I’d seen from Genevieve. She’d been stunning before, but with that smile . . . my heart skipped.
She’d be an angel to Mom over dinner, and for that, Genevieve wouldn’t have to lift a brush. I’d paint this entire place for her, twice if she asked me to.
“You need me?” “Duh. We’re a team.”
She was important. She was special and precious.
“Who’s your best friend?” she chattered on. “You,”
Someone had come after Genevieve. My wife.
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
“Genevieve.” I waited until she glanced over, until I had her attention for a second. “You stand apart. From everyone.”
If my heart left her breathless, then hers gave me a reason to breathe.
“Where you go, I go.”
My God, I loved her. More than I’d loved another soul.
