“The time I have left to live is far greater than what you have, Danny.” I swallowed, not even wanting to think of it. “This would mean that I would give half of that time to you. And you would give half of yours to me.”
“Wyn, you romantic son of a bitch.”
“And you’re really… willing to do that? You’re getting the raw end of the deal here. You’d be…”—he swallowed—“halving what’s left of your life. For me.” That made me wheeze out a grating laugh. “Trust me, Danny, I am not getting the raw end of the deal.” I wrapped my arms tight around his middle, pulling him closer. “I get you.” “Oh my god, Wyn, you’re being so romantic today.” Danny threw his arms around my neck and grinned widely at me. “Are you sick? Do you feel—” “Shut up,” I growled, dipping my head to kiss him,
I trailed my lips up his neck and mouthed his earlobe. “Shall I see how loud I can make you get now, my sweet human?”
“They wouldn’t all leave. They would never leave the tear entirely unguarded. I could fling them all far away?” I added, eagerness bleeding into my voice. “Humans don’t tend to survive being flung great distances through the air, Wyn.”
Danny flushed deeper and gave my middle a half-hearted shove. “Would you want to hang uselessly in the air while your powerful monster boyfriend fucked shit up in his cool black smoke form?”
“I feel bad. We’re getting spunk in the pool.” Danny’s voice was worried and sheepish. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Who gave a fuck? “Don’t feel bad. Just consider it an offering to the gods.” Danny choked on a breath. “What?” He gave my shoulder a weak smack. “You said these pools weren’t sacred!” He poked me in the stomach. “We just fucked in a religious place? You had your tongue up my ass on sacred ground?” I huffed and pulled him closer to drop a kiss in his hair. “My sweet, it was a joke.” I would just have to make sure he didn’t see the shrine when we left.
“It has stretched to match your lifespan, and for me, it has contracted. Our lifespans have aligned to match perfectly.” I wrapped my arm around his shoulders to pull him closer. “We will be tiny, wrinkly bags of bones together when we are old.”
I can’t imagine you as a tiny, cute little baby Wyn.” I wanted to hunch with embarrassment. “We probably aren’t very cute to human eyes when we are infants.” “I bet you are.” Danny swayed closer and nudged my hood aside with his nose to kiss my cheek. “I bet you were fuckin’ adorable.”
“You were always meant to meet me. You’re mine.” Danny grinned again and kissed my chin. “I never really believed in fate, or soul mates, but… I think you’re mine.”
I loved him. In that moment, it hit me that I would have him—I would have this—for the rest of my life. Our lives. My throat closed up with emotion, even as everything within me tightened from the accompanying burst of pleasure at the realisation. I would have him forever.
“I hope that’s a side effect. Super orgasms.” He let out a little gasp, and I knew without a doubt what he was about to say. “Don’t say—” “Monster orgasms.” I rolled my eyes. “You are ridiculous.”
