“My sweet.”
“I wanted this more than anything in the universe. To be with you always.”
“You haven’t taken anything from me. You’ve g...

“I promised you a city, didn’t I?” Danny stilled, then chuckled. “Actually, you very specifically did not promise. You very specifically pointed out the fact that you hadn’t promised.”
His tone made it very clear that he didn’t believe me. Because of course it wasn’t true. I didn’t think I had it in me to deny him anything.
Moric Lor doesn’t care about what happens out in the wild lands, where I nest. Where the tear is.” “Moric Lor? Is that the ruler’s name?” “His name is Lor. His title is Moric. Like king.”
Too many beings for my taste, though.” Danny laughed. “Any more than you and me is too many though, right?” “Yes.”
I didn’t add that it was technically a black-market product, because it had been removed from a sacred spot. That would just make Danny start fretting over the fact that we’d fucked there. I smiled a little at the memory of it.
“Yeah. Humans kind of suck, huh?” I swayed closer to him as we walked. “Some of you are nice.” He grinned over at me. “Some of us?” “One of you,” I amended. “One human. You.”
“If they are still together—which they totally will be—then Hunter will be like your brother-in-law. You’ll have to be nice.” The thought made me feel vaguely ill. “Never say that again, Danny.”
“Poor Edin. And he lost some of his horn, didn’t he? His horns were cool.” I scowled but said nothing. Mine were better.
And then when I’d seen him, it was like some part of me that had always felt lodged or slightly out of place, even though I’d never noticed it, suddenly shifted. I felt whole.
Like humans, they had spun tales about us, making us the monsters from their nightmares. I liked it, because it meant everyone tended to leave me the fuck alone.
“If you want a room, you can’t take that thing in with you,” they said, nodding at Danny with a look of distaste. I gritted my teeth. “Watch your fucking mouth.” “Aren’t they wild? I don’t let any other pets—” “He’s not a pet,” I snarled. “Well, it’s not allowed in the room.”
He hated asking me for things, as if he still wasn’t aware that I would give him literally anything he ever wanted.
“I never really believed in fate, or soul mates, but… I think you’re mine.” “I am yours,”
“I hope that’s a side effect. Super orgasms.” He let out a little gasp, and I knew without a doubt what he was about to say. “Don’t say—” “Monster orgasms.”
“Animal bone though, yeah?” I shook my head. “The bones of my mortal enemies,”
I’d get to tease Wyn for literal centuries about having Hunter as an almost-brother-in-law.
