grunted. “No burning? Tongue going numb? Throat closing up?” The soldier went even paler. “Should there be?” I gave him a wide, sharp grin from within my hood, even though he couldn’t see it. “We’ll find out together, won’t we?”
“If it looks like you are in any danger whatsoever, I’m murdering them.” My tone brooked no argument, and I held back my irritated sigh when Danny went pale.
With a sigh, I dissipated once more and started scouring the earth for mines, resolidifying just long enough to jump on each one’s pressure plate to set it off. I refused to admit, even to myself, that it was actually somewhat amusing. Like a game.
“You know if I tell anyone all the sweet shit you say to me, no one’s gonna be scared of you anymore.” I bared my teeth in a not-quite grin, leaning my head down to graze them over the shell of Danny’s ear. “Then you better not tell anyone.”
I would never admit it out loud, because he would gloat, but this was more than nice. This was… wonderful. There had never been—and never would be—another being in the universe who I could be this relaxed and content around. Not even Edin, who I trusted with my life. Danny made me feel peaceful.
“We just fucked in a religious place? You had your tongue up my ass on sacred ground?” I huffed and pulled him closer to drop a kiss in his hair. “My sweet, it was a joke.” I would just have to make sure he didn’t see the shrine when we left.
