“Well, why can’t I look at you?” I countered, crossing my arms over my chest and sprawling back in my seat, knees spread wide and boots planted on the ground. Danny called it my BDE pose. I had no idea what that meant, but it normally succeeded in making him come and give me some attention.

I felt no different, but at the same time, I did. Perhaps I was just being a sentimental fool, but it suddenly felt like my life, my existence, had more meaning. More purpose. It was for him.
“My sweet.” I cupped Danny’s face, trying to keep my voice as patient as possible. “I wanted this more than anything in the universe. To be with you always.”
“I love you, Wyn,” he said, voice slightly hoarse. His Adam’s apple bobbed. “I’m so glad I met you. And that I get to spend the next few thousand years with you,” he added, grinning up at me.
“I love you, too.” I wrapped my arms around his waist, pulling him tighter to me. “You were always meant to meet me. You’re mine.”
