“I’ll send some men out to scope the trails. They’ll be under instructions not to leave the path but to look for any sign that someone else might have. Tape on the trees or rope or anything of that kind. Will that satisfy you, Delago?”

Decker’s swollen, bloodshot eye and the bandage taped to his neck. “Looks like she gave you hell, though.”
He thought it warranted further investigation, but the station’s chief wanted him to wrap up the case quickly. I asked who the chief was. He said it was you. You’d held the position for just over a month when that all happened.”
