“Do you know what that means for you? It means I have no humanity left in me. No empathy. No guilt. Nothing. I could do this all fucking day, and even when your body gives out, I’d just bring it back again.”
“You only got a girl kidnapped and sold into the skin trade, you mean? You only condemned an innocent woman to torture, trauma, and rape because your daddy died?”
“It’s all I can think about,” I choke out on a whisper. “I’m plagued by the torture she must be suffering through. The pain and how she probably wants to die.”
I pick up the butt, stuff it in my pocket, and force myself to refocus on the screen.
“Seriously, dude? You’re smoking while burning down a building? You literally just inhaled a shit ton from the fire.”
I swing open my door and inhale my cigarette one last time before stubbing it on the ground with my boot. Stop littering. Yes, baby.
“I can’t live with the fish, Rio. I don’t like sharks.” Rio’s brows plunge. “The fuck are you talking about?”
“We found her?” “We fucking found her,” I confirm,
“I’m here, little mouse, I’m here,” he chants.
“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.”
The thought of getting ice cream with Zade is so normal and mundane that it feels like the most exciting thing to happen since sliced bread.
“My entire world revolves around you. If you want mint chocolate chip, then that’s what I want, too,” he had said. “Do you even like it?” “I like you, does that count?” “No.”
“You’re here. Why are you here? Did you need something?” “Just you, little mouse.”
“Crawl to me,”
“You’re so fucking beautiful; I want to cut the eyes from those who get the privilege to look at you,”
He carved a symbol of his love for me into his chest.
“I don’t care if I need to set this world on fire until there’s no one left but you and me. The world will burn around us, and I’ll gladly live in chaos with you as long as the only person that is a danger to you is me.”
I may have cracked, but they did not shatter me. My rose still has fucking thorns, Zade. Do you understand me?”
Scars only serve as reminders of what we’ve survived, not what killed us.
“You and I will never end, little mouse. Even when we’re six feet under, and our bones are dust, I will haunt your soul until it aches to be free of me. And then, I will hold you tighter.”
“You’re doing so good, baby. And you look so fucking pretty. I can’t wait to see how you’ll look when you take all of me.”
“I have no goddamn control when it comes to you. I lost it when I saw you in that bookstore and never got it back. You think me stalking you was control? Drinking from your body despite your cries? Do you think I have it right fucking now?” he growls,
“Say it again,” he demands. “I want you to look me in my fucking eyes and say it again.”
“I love you.
“Look at me, Adeline. I want you to watch me brand you as mine.”
“Oh my God, please, I can’t anymore!”
“Eyes on me when you’re praying to me,”
“Don’t forget your knives and guns, mouse,” I call after her. “And, Sibby… limit your knives and guns.”
