Addie, baby, I need you to fight for me, okay? I need you to survive until I get to you.
“I swear to everything that is holy, I will destroy you if you touched my girl.”
“As long as you still make me Uncle Z.” He scoffs, peering over at me as if I’m cracked. “You seriously think I’m going to have kids after seeing this shit every day?” I shrug a shoulder again, pursing my lips. “Why not? Uncle Z will keep them safe. I can be their personal bodyguard. They may not like it, but I’ll fucking do it.”
“That’s for my grandma, dick.” “Bro, none of your grandparents are still alive.”
“He would never touch you,” I snap. “Nor would he let you touch him.”
Who hurt you, bro?
She stares at me for a beat, and then her face cracks, and a full-blown grin stretches her lips. Fuck. I’m so in love with her.
“At least you’ll end up marrying a rich man,” I comment. She pins me with a dry look. “Now I can never marry you. It’s my life’s purpose to disappoint her in every decision I make.” I arch a brow. “Don’t underestimate me, Addie. I’ll become a poor man for you.”
“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.”
“So toothpaste?”
“My entire world revolves around you. If you want mint chocolate chip, then that’s what I want, too,” he had said. “Do you even like it?” “I like you, does that count?”
We’re a team, baby. Got it?”
“If you do that, I will literally lose my shit,”
“I will fuck you up.” “It’s cute, baby,”
“I go take a shit for five minutes, and you’re in a high-speed car chase when I come back,”
“My girl had it handled.”
Having Zade’s love feels like a dream, but having his trust and confidence feels like a dream come true.
She turns around and speaks to one of her henchmen. “You guys are bathing their stench off me later.” “Oh my God,” I say, turning my gaze back to Zade’s. “I’m going to have to give the tub a bath tomorrow.” He shakes his head, appearing disturbed. “Use holy water. Lots of holy water.”
Zade may be Hades, but the dark God has never been known to bow for anyone but his woman.
And when we get on our plane, I’m fucking holding you.”
"I may own every breath in your body, but make no mistake, Adeline, you own mine, too. I am yours to command. To bend and break. To mold and manipulate. Do you think that makes me weak? Or do you think I'm strong enough to admit that even though my body can
physically live on without you, I would never get my fucking soul back?” His hand slides into my hair and fists the strands tightly. "Without you, I will shatter. But with you, I am indestructible."
“What you’ve forgotten is that the heart beating inside your chest isn’t fucking yours,” he snarls. “It’s mine. And if my heart has stopped working, then pull that trigger, little mouse. Kill the rest of me. I’m nothing if I’m not the reason you breathe.”
“You’ll always be safe with me, little mouse. Always.”
A beast and a god twisted together, forming something wholly unnatural. And I realize, I never needed to be afraid of his touch. It was men that defiled me, and Zade was never a man.
“I’ll always bleed for you,”
“But I have always been yours.”
“I’ve followed you through lifetimes, Adeline. My soul needs you so badly that I’ve become a shadow, destined to hunt you for eternity.”
She was fucking made for me.
“Sure, baby,” he says quietly. “But we both know my cock belongs only to you.” “Good, then you know I can remove it from your body if I want. Since it’s mine and all that.”
“Would you do it?” I question, looking up at him. “If I asked, would you spare his life?” “Yes,” he responds. “I would kill for you—I have killed for you—but I would also put down a gun and never pick it up again if you asked it of me. The lengths I would go to for you are terrifying, little mouse. So easily, you could destroy me, and I would lie down and take it. I don’t care if I live or die—as long as it’s all for you.”
And there’s a small part of me terrified to see the day Zade dies. Though I’ll have a lot to fucking say if he croaks before he turns ninety. Asshole jumped through hoops to get me, now he has to suffer through a long life of having me.
“I love you, Zade. Sometimes I can’t fucking stand it,” I say, my voice raspy and uneven. “But it was the only thing that kept me alive. You saved me. Even when we were apart, you saved me. And I hope to God you never stop hunting me.”
My girl is strong and capable, and I’ll gladly follow her lead.
Normally, I’d stop and stare at her childhood pictures, fantasizing
about the kid versions of myself falling in love with her had I seen her then.
Fuck, that’s my good girl.
“Which ghost fucked with you?” I ask, smirking. “Dude, I swear to God, I was taking a piss, and something breathed down my neck. I was just waiting for it to try to give me a reach-around.”
“Tie me up, Baron,” Addie says to my mercenary, who’s been leaning against the wall to my right. She’s smirking because she knows damn well how suggestive that sounded. “Are you trying to get me killed?” Baron asks, his deep baritone voice pitching higher.
“So I see today is the day we both die,” Zade announces from behind me, causing me to jump. “Why would we both die?” Stupid question. I know what he’s going to say the moment the last word leaves my mouth. “Because if you fall, I’ll follow after you.”
“Baby, if you want me dead, I’ll hand you the knife to stick in my chest. Sending us both over the cliff would be a little overkill.” “And I thought my mom was the dramatic one,” I mutter.
but Zade moves as if he’s encased in bulletproof armor. My heart picks up speed, adrenaline surfacing because the bozo does not, in fact, have on bulletproof armor, and if one bullet comes anywhere near him, I’m going to fucking lose it.
But what I do know is that man was holding a gun to your head. And if taking a bullet in the chest means that my daughter doesn’t have one through her skull and is six feet under… then it was worth it.”
“Do you trust me?” I ask, amused when her eyes snap to mine, sharp knives shooting from them. “I trust you with my life. But do I trust you not to rip me in half? Absolutely not.”
It’s a white gold band shaped in a vine with tiny white jewels encrusted into it. The band forms into a rose made up of bright red rubies.
“Are you proposing because you’re in love with me or because I gave you anal?”
Heaven isn’t a place you go to when you die, it’s inside the person that’s worth dying for.
