“just another puck bunny,”
“Greyson Scott. But I go by Grey,” he added with a wink. It was my turn to study him. It was a strong, but serious name. He didn’t seem like a serious guy to me. Maybe he’d grow into it one day… but that would be kind of a shame. I liked his lightness.
“Because I want to hold your hand,” he said with a confident look on his face. “And maybe kiss you,” he wagged his eyebrows at me. “And I’ve wanted to ask you out for a long time,” he smiled.
“I can’t believe you’ve watched our side,” I said. “I don’t watch your side, I watch you,” he pointed out.
Through the entire marriage I had become an isolated glacier, melting away where no one could see.
“Tate…” he said again, tsking. “Always thought you’d be a Scott girl,” he drawled slowly with a sad smile.
I smiled to myself. Fuck yeah, I’m wifed up. I’d been wifed up for a while. And they were all jealous.
“It was an accident, if that’s what you wanted to know. And not with Grey,” I said weakly, internally wishing it was a lie.
I’d had one too many concussions and not enough goals, and no one wanted me.
“And then he came to me crying thinking I could fix his little broken wing because of his hospital scaries- but that part’s kind of cute actually in his sad puppy dog kinda way that he gets, ya know?”
“Girl,” Paige looked at me seriously, “that boy would still walk through fire for you.”
“I still love you,” he choked out. Tears were in the corner of his eyes. In all the years that we were together, I’d never seen him cry before. “I never stopped. I don’t even care if that’s not how you feel, I want you to know Julianna.”
“I love your mom. I am completely and absolutely in love with Julianna Louise Hurley and I have been since I was 16,” he told him matter of factly.
“Max… he’s the one who caused it all. He gave her that phone. He sent her those breakup texts. I’m sure of it.”
“You know I love you,” he said gently. “And I know you’ve been through your own hell too. But Jules… Don’t come if you aren’t planning to stay with him. Don’t do that to him.”
“Your uh… shark time?” I offered.
