wore a D&G Chantilly lace mantilla. An audience with the pope is a rare and special occasion, one not taken lightly by the many Catholics on our team. Understandably, only a few people from our entourage would be allowed into the Vatican, let alone the room with the pope. Sean Spicer, who was not only a senior staff member but a devout Catholic, was hopeful that he would be allowed in. But it was not to be. Instead, in what was now a running slideshow in my life, Jared and Ivanka, “the interns,” neither of whom was Catholic, took his place while Spicer sat in a van outside. That one really pissed me off. Sean is a man of deep faith, and he deserved that special moment. He didn’t complain, though, just asked that someone take his rosary inside to be blessed. Was he pissed at Jared and the Princess? Maybe. He should’ve been. But he is a gracious guy and seemed to be in a precarious position with the president by then so probably couldn’t afford to make enemies, especially not those two. Overall, the visit was a success and even included a lighthearted exchange between Pope Francis and Mrs. Trump. He asked her if she fed the president potica, a well-known dessert in Slovenia. Mrs. Trump wasn’t sure what he had said. She thought the Holy Father asked if she fed her husband pizza, which by the way she would never do, but
