“Whenever I smell syrup, I think of the day we met,” I said. “The day you called me a monster.” There was a smirk on his mouth as he chewed. “Hey, the truth hurts, baby.”
I found Eva asleep in the chair. Her lips were slightly parted. Her knees were drawn in tight. One hand cradled her cheek while the other was splayed across her belly. I’d been standing here for minutes, just watching. Hurting. Because goddamn it, I loved her. I’d always loved her. I always would. And tomorrow, I’d watch her walk away. It was like having my heart broken all over again.
