I don’t need to win some stupid bet. I’m already the luckiest man in the bar.
Grace and I have had numerous conversations about what’ll happen when we get married—when, not if, because come on now. We’re end game and we both know it.
“I told you a long time ago—you’re it for me, Gracie Elizabeth. I’m going to marry you one day.”
“Who says I want to marry you?” I tip my head in challenge. “Don’t you dare pretend we’re not forever.”
“You make me feel everything,” I finally reveal. “You make me smile. You make me hard. You drive me crazy.” My voice breaks slightly. “You make me feel safe.”
Losing touch with college friends is simply one of those depressing inevitabilities of life, but I’ve also been lucky that many of these guys are still in my life.
Those words mean more to me than she’ll ever understand. Truth is, I wouldn’t have gotten this far without her. She was the first person who helped me find some kind of peace with my past, and it’s with her support I’ve found my way to the courage to confront it. She makes me a better man. And, hopefully, a good father.
