“What did he do?” Dean demands in a low voice.
“Sure you are. Seriously, just find yourself a rebound.” Dean whips up his arm. “I volunteer as tribute.”
“I’m sorry, but you’re too fucking much sometimes.” I can’t stop laughing. “Do girls really fall for these lines?” He makes an unflattering noise under his breath. “Put on the damn movie already.”
“Allie.” “Yeah?” I turn around. His green eyes flicker unhappily. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
I’m always following in their footsteps, and I guess I just wanted to be different or some shit.
No way am I letting this kid anywhere near Allie.
I think it takes a certain level of trust to sit next to someone and not feel the pressing urge to babble away.
His gaze rakes over me from head to toe before locking with mine. “We’re not done,” he says gruffly. I bite the inside of my cheek and say, “I know.”
“I think I really like the Life of Dean.” I think I really like you, I almost blurt out.
Her frown deepens. “You were staring at me.” I was? Shit, I hadn’t even realized it. “Sorry, I must have spaced out.” I paste on a careless smile, doing my best to ignore the weird flutter in my stomach.
“The only one of Logan’s crazy acronyms I live my life by—STAG.” His mouth stretches in a broad smile. “Stand there and grind.”
“Please…just call him. I…” I feel my entire face collapsing again. “I need him.”
“Where is she?”
“Baby,” I say softly.
“It’s too confusing. Sleeping with you when we’re not actually together—” “We’re together,” I bite out. She startles. “What?”
“Jesus. I can’t believe you got the drop on me like that. You’re lucky I love you, babe. If any other girl had done this to me—” “You love me?” I blurt out.
“I am doing what I want.” My eyebrows knit together as I wait for him to clarify. “I’m making you happy.”
