“But I’ve got a whole bag of gummy bears hidden in my desk drawer.”
“Marry me,” I say instantly.
“Well, you were looking at me like you wanted me to kiss you.”
“So I was thinking I might do that.”
“You want to talk crazy? I’ve spent the whole fucking weekend fantasizing about doing this.”
“When I’m with Garrett, my whole world comes alive. I’m so full of emotion I feel like my heart will overflow, and I know this is going to sound like an exaggeration or maybe kind of obsessive, but sometimes I think I need him more than I need food or oxygen.”
I didn’t realize until I got home that I was already with the person I wanted to be with.”
“I don’t want to fool around.” I exhale in a rush. “I want to take you out on a date.”
I don’t want anyone else. All I want is another chance.”
I had no intention of throwing down tonight, but if some slimy mofo so much as looks at Grace wrong, he’ll be leaving this party on a stretcher.
“So you’re not attracted to me at all anymore?” I don’t answer. I can’t answer. Desire has clogged my throat. “Because I’m still attracted to you.” Heavy-lidded eyes rake over my body. “If anything, I think I want you even more.”
“Kiss me.”
“Okay, next. You should know that as long as you and Grace aren’t exclusive, I won’t stop trying to win her back.”
“Please. Tell me what’ll it take for you to go out with me, and I’ll do it. I’ll do anything.”
“Anything?” I say slowly. His blue eyes shine with fortitude. “Anything, gorgeous. Absolutely anything.”
“Call my girlfriend a ho one more time and you won’t have a bro.”
I’m getting that date, gorgeous
“Is she worth all this, bro?” I don’t ask who “she” is. I simply nod.
“It’s all right. We’ll work through this, gorgeous. Might need couples counseling at some point, but once I teach you to love hockey, it’ll be smooth sailing for us.”
“Okay, well, your choice of restaurant? Perfect ten. Chivalry…you opened my car door, so that’s a ten too. Conversational prowess…nine.” “Nine?” he blusters. I flash an impish smile. “I’m taking a point off for the hockey talk. That was rather dreary.” Logan narrows his eyes. “You’ve gone too far, woman.”
He slides both hands down my bare arms, leaving goose bumps in his wake, then rests them on my hip, casual almost, except there’s nothing casual about the way his touch makes me feel.
“Gotta say, this is the first time I’ve seen Logan show up to a party with a date.” “Get used to it,” Logan tosses back. “I don’t plan on leaving the house without her anymore.”
“All those girls who came over to us? I don’t even remember what they look like. I don’t remember half their names. You’re the only one I see tonight, the only one I see ever.”
Trust me, baby, you’re the only woman I want.
“Am I your girlfriend?”
“I don’t know, baby, do you want to be?” Amusement dances in her brown eyes. “Well, now I don’t.”
“Liar,” I accuse. “Of course you want to be my girlfriend. And FYI? You are.” Her expression grows pensive for a moment, and then she nods. “I can live with that.” “Aw, how generous of you, baby. We should silkscreen it on matching T-shirts—‘I can live with that.’”
Her laughter floats up and tickles my chin. I love her laugh. It’s so fucking genuine. Everything about her is genuine.
“Ha. Who’s jealous now?” “Not me,” I lie. “You totally are.” She inches closer and plants a loud kiss on my lips. “Don’t be. I have a boyfriend, remember?”
“Damn right you do.”
The idea of Grace with another guy is unacceptable. I won’t go as far as to say she’s mine, but…well, she’s mine. Mine to hold and mine to kiss and mine to laugh with.
I reach several conclusions. One, I’ve never had more fun with a girl in my entire life. Two, I never want this to end. And three… I think I might be falling in love with her.
“I just want to fall asleep with you.
“You haven’t had sex in six months?” “Nope.” A sheepish look fills his face. “Not since I met you.”
“But this…” He leans closer and gently presses his mouth against mine in the sweetest kiss imaginable. “This…” Another kiss. “Feels…” And another one. “Right.”
I worship her.
“And just in case my reaction to your idiocy didn’t make it clear where I stand with us, then let me spell it out for you.” I whirl around to scowl at him. “I love you, you stupid jackass.”
She loves me. Even after I indicted her for a hypothetical future breakup and pretty much told her she was going to desert me when the going gets tough, she still told me she loved me.
But yeah, I want her.” He pauses. “I’m in love with her.”
“I’ve been in love with her for a few months now,” he continues, and his husky confession reinflates my heart. “I didn’t tell her because I didn’t want to scare her off by saying it too soon.”
“Anyway, this girl…she’s the love of my life. She’s smart and funny and unbelievably compassionate. She forgives people even when they don’t deserve it.
“Grace Elizabeth Ivers. The woman I love.”
“I can’t believe you said all that stuff. I don’t plan on ever breaking up with you.”
“Good. Because I’m never breaking up with you.”
“Actually, I think I’m going to marry...

“I mean it, Grace, I’m in this for the long haul. You still have two years left at Briar, and I’ll be in Munsen during that time, but I promise you, I’ll come see you as often as I can. Every available second I have will be yours.” His voice thickens. “I’m yours.”
“I meant every damn word, gorgeous.”
“You’re the last person I think about before I go to sleep, and the first person I think about when I open my eyes in the morning. You’re it for me, baby.”
