Trying to defend oneself or debate accusations will not alter the resentment and will only confuse the child(ren). Contradicting or undermining directives of the other parent simply adds to the chaos. Often the best approach is to redirect the conversation away from the personal relationship by acknowledging mutual dedication to the children and focusing only on what’s best for the kids. Usually, common ground can be found and conflict can be minimized.
