They realized that divisiveness and tribalism had ruined the United States, so the first sections of the Philadelphia Constitution outlined that only independent candidates could run for office. The party system was outlawed. Sure, like-minded people could form groups to further a cause, but the ballots could not contain party affiliation. Voters had to research and align themselves with a candidate that shared their positions and ideals. And, of course, elections were by popular vote only. Every single vote mattered.

This person had to have tenure as a legislative representative and could only serve one term. The Framers felt that a president should not dedicate any time toward any type of re-election.

Progress was the key. The country needed to fly together in a singular direction, taking into account different points of view and ideas. Everything was debatable as there are two or more sides to every political argument. The point, though, was to consider each without prejudice and go forward together.
