Apollo pressed his lips together tightly, and after a moment, he said, “Wanna shot?” “Are you going to poison it?” Again, he offered that crooked smile.
“Why did you call him?” she asked Hermes. “He hates me.”

“I’m going to murder Apollo,” he said, mostly under his breath. “Why?” “For fun.” His voice was gruff, and Persephone giggled. “You’re jealous.”
Hyacinth, the young man Apollo loved. He was well-muscled and beautiful, with a swath of golden hair. When he smiled, his teeth gleamed; when he laughed, it was like music. She knew when Apollo saw him, because he stiffened beside her. “Go to him, Apollo,” she said.

“I love you.” A faint smile touched Hades’s lips. “I wasn’t sure I would hear those words again.” Hades’s admission hurt her heart. Her eyes began to water. “I never stopped.”
“Shall we call upon her now?” he asked. “Perhaps we should make love so that she has no reason to suspect her plan worked.” “Hades!” Persephone chided but smiled too.

“I said ‘apologize,’” Persephone commanded, and Demeter was sent to her knees, the marble beneath her cracking with the force of her fall. Persephone didn’t mean to use so much force, but the result had the desired effect.

“Death wouldn’t have changed anything for us, Seph,” Lexa whispered. “Being back? That changes everything.”
