On his knees in front of Bishop Yoder and all of Zebulon, David had said the only thing he could: no. To say yes would have been a betrayal not only of his heart and honor, but of Isaac. And he would not betray his Isaac.
They may be sinners, but Isaac was still a gift from God.
You’re my brother, and David’s your boyfriend. I’ll take care of everything for you, okay?” Boyfriend. David liked the sound of it as he rolled the word over in his mind.
“I want to worship you,” he whispered. Isaac was beautiful and good, and David wanted him to know it.
“When he’s here you’re…lighter,” Aaron mused. “You get this look, like he’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen.”
“I don’t want to be with anyone but David,” Isaac said quietly. The pressure that had been building in David’s chest released. “Me either. I only want you.”
I’d never want to be in heaven without you.”
David swallowed hard. “I just want you to stay safe. Don’t go too far from shore.” Don’t leave me behind.
“Everything’s a sin anyway. You might as well be happy.”
“It’s like I can feel your heartbeat inside me. I was so empty, and now you’re here.” He ran a shaky hand over David’s chest. “It hurts a little, but I love it. Love you.”
You want to be on the same page, and sometimes people get ahead or fall behind without meaning to. But it’s still the same book.”
