The vampire looked her up and down. “You know what? I changed my mind. You’d like all nine.” He gave her a wink and a devilish smile before licking his tongue over a single fang.
“I didn’t think you cared.” “I don’t.” “You’re jealous.” His delicious smirk was back, making it impossible for her not to swoon. “You have the most selective hearing of anyone I’ve ever met.” August laughed. “It’s one of my more charming traits.”
He’d fucked up. It wasn’t his game he was playing. It was hers. She held all the cards, and he’d pathetically bluffed his way through the round, thinking he could win with the shit hand he’d been dealt.
“Tell me what I need to do to prove to you I’m not the monster you believe me to be. Whatever it is, I’ll do it.”
