In 2017, a Google software engineer called James Damore wrote an internal memo laying out his view that women were unsuited to tech and that there was no case to be made for pursuing a more equally gendered workforce. Women were either not sufficiently able, or not sufficiently interested. The wiring was wrong. Different brain. Women ‘chose’ to pursue more people-friendly careers. Careers that ‘suited’ them.
