Jacqueline had learned years ago that her favorite people were in the books she devoured, because at the end of the day, they never betrayed you. They never let you down. They always did what they were supposed to do: entertain, amuse, thrill, teach. Sometimes they even frustrated you, but at least you usually understood why they did dumb things.
