At this point a majority of Americans recognize aspects of this problem and agree that our politics needs a new dynamic. The solution is the emergence of a viable third party. More than 60 percent of Americans say that both political parties are out of touch, while 57 percent say there is a need for a major third party. But the structural forces make it nearly impossible.
