Despite the gravity of his situation, Rudy found that existing provision for victims of domestic abuse wasn’t designed with someone like him – a transitioning trans man – in mind. Indeed, the domestic violence provision was heavily gendered. ‘I was given three options,’ he continued: ‘a woman’s shelter, a man’s shelter, or presenting myself to the council as homeless.
