“Before we left the party. You told me you were cold.” I look at Oakley and find his cheeks a subtle shade of pink. He meets my stare, and our eyes lock. “You look good in it. Keep it.”
“You always let me choose the music,” I state. “I do.” “Why?” He rubs a hand over the back of his neck. “You get excited when you pick it. Your leg starts bouncing, and you smile.”
“You’re only partially right. I don’t care what you think about anyone else, just what you think about me.”
“I like you, Ava. Enough that the sight of you wearing another guy’s clothes makes me see red.”
“Nothing you could tell me would change the way I think about you, Ava. That’s a promise.”
“Promise me you’ll wear it. I need my girl wearing my jersey in the stands, or I might lose the game.” I arch a brow. “Your girl?” His eyes darken as he takes a step toward me and grips my waist. “Yeah, my girl. I thought I made that clear last night.”
“I’ll be screaming your name in the stands,” I breathe. His grin is pure sin. “Go crazy, baby. It’ll be good practice for later. See you soon.” And then he’s gone.
“My body hurts, Ava. Don’t make me beg,” he whispers once he’s standing right in front of me.
This isn’t soft or gentle. It’s intense and overwhelmingly intoxicating. She’s giving everything to me, and I’m taking just as much as I’m giving back. This girl is my world, my sun and fucking stars. She has me—all of me—in the palm of her hands, and I don’t think she even realizes it.
This girl. This damn girl.
“I’m scared of getting hurt again, and you have the power to destroy me,” she whispers. “I would do anything for you, Ava. Including breaking myself before I would ever risk seeing you get hurt again.”
“I’m going to marry you someday,” I murmur, biting down gently on the side of her throat. She gasps, grinding down on me. Carefully, I push my hands through her hair, collecting it in my fists before pulling her head back. She stares at me, pupils blown, puffy pink lips parted. “I’m going to give you my last name, and we’re going to have a life together. A family. You and me and however many kids you want.”
Oakley nods before a photo of us comes up on the small screen behind him. He swivels in his seat and grins. “Yeah, that’s her. That’s my Ava.”
