“A promise is not a kiss in the wind, to be thrown about without care,” I murmured to myself. “It is a piece of yourself that is given away and will not return until your pledge is fulfilled.”

“Time is so lugubriously slow when there’s nothing to read.

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,

“Immortality comes at a price.

“You’ll learn to take such sights for granted soon enough,”

“Would it be so bad, staying with me?” he said quietly. “I’d make sure you were safe. I could do that for you. I’ve always done that for you. I deserve a fair chance, don’t I?”

But cleverness didn’t used to make me feel so guilty.

“I would wish to live a quiet life. Somewhere in the North with plenty of snow.”

“Sometimes more than a spark. Don’t forget who you are along the way to becoming one. A legend, that is.”
