You could break my heart in two But when it heals, it beats for you I know it's forward, but it's true
“Did you know he’d be here?” “Well, I might follow his Instagram page.” So that’s a yes. Stalker.
He stands and shows off his nicely tailored suit. “I went to get dressed and have been waiting twenty minutes for your slow ass. Didn’t know masturbating took that long. You women have too many things going on down there; no wonder it takes a magician to get you off.”
I knew when we were thirteen that she was the woman I wanted to marry.
“You look like you’re going to prom. All you need is one of those cheesy boutonnieres. Maybe your date will give you one.” He steps past me, chuckling. I roll my eyes. “She’s not my date. We’re going as friends, and that’s it. Technically, you’re my date tonight.” Hunter snorts. “Don’t expect me to put out now. I have standards.” I groan. “I’m already regretting this whole disaster.”
“You never give anyone a chance. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re still stuck on the one ‘that shall not be named.’” He shoves his hands in his front pockets as I unlock the truck. “Voldemort?” I smirk at him. “You know who.”
I’ll do anything to get her alone because we have a lot to talk about.
He chuckles and grabs a mini sausage. “Sometimes size does matter.” I snort.
Donny walks toward the bar like it’s a runway, and it makes me snicker because he really gives no fucks about any of the people’s opinions in this room.
For years, I thought about what it’d be like to see him again, but this feels like something from my worst nightmares, especially since he’s with that witch. I wish a house would fall on her and the Munchkins would come out to celebrate with me.
“I know it’s been a long time but seeing him just makes me feel terrible about what happened between us.” I keep my voice low, and I see his face soften. “Maybe it’s time you told him the truth then?” Donny’s eyes meet mine, and for the first time tonight, he’s being serious. “I couldn’t. He’d never forgive me. Ever.”
Nothing or no one has ever been able to fill that void in my heart. It’s a shallow grave of where our love once lived. It’s always been reserved for him, and I’m sure it’ll always be there.
“I missed you, Hayden. Your kisses. The way you smell. You still wear the same cologne.” She giggles. “I want to bury my face in you and inhale you all night.”
“It was all a lie,” are her last words before she finally passes out.
Hayden: I’m here. Waited almost ten minutes at your door. Considering you’ve rejected my call, I assume you don’t want to do lunch. It took years for me to get over you and work through the heartache that practically destroyed me. You didn’t have to agree to meet up with me if you didn’t intend to. You could’ve told me no. I’ve endured worse pain than that before from you.
“I knew lying to him would eventually catch up to me, but this is so fucking cruel.”
“I have a secret,” she whispers. I smile wide at her honesty. “I already know your secret, Sav.”
“Only a phone call away, remember that. I’m here for you,” I tell him, and we pull apart. “I’m not gonna be a pussy and cry, but I’m almost tempted.” He lets out a hearty laugh as he leans against his truck.
