I caught him taking me in from head to toe. I twirled around for him because I knew he was memorizing my appearance and exactly what I was wearing in case I didn’t come back.
“He broke up with me after a week because I wasn’t ready to do more than kiss him. Nerd or jock, guys at our school are major jerks.” I sighed. “I’m not going to go, but if you won’t stay home with me, please be safe. I didn’t absorb you in Mom’s womb for a reason. Don’t get behind a wheel drunk or let some asshole spike your drink and ruin my master plans.”
“I know. Your bedroom window is next to mine. You’ve woken me up every night since you moved in with your screaming.”
“I don’t know you enough to dislike you, but I don’t know you well enough to like you either. As for this morning, I was tired and I’m not nice to anyone when I’m tired.”
“I think I need to move to Alaska,” Ethan said. One of his jock friends snorted and asked him why. “Because I think that’s where the rest of the girls as adorable as Shiloh are hiding.”
Creed’s aquamarine’s eyes met mine. “That’s what it looks like when I don’t like someone.” “Noted,” I said.
“Your wrists match your ankles,” he murmured as his thumb lightly brushed over my inner wrist, right along my scar. Creed and Ethan stepped back to look down at my ankles. “You look like you were tied up,” Ethan blurted, and Colt glared at him.
“That’s perfectly fine, Shi. Healing isn’t a race and if anyone tries to pressure you into anything you’re not ready for, just remember what I taught you.” “I don’t think stabbing a teenage boy in the carotid is the best course of action.”
“Jealous you didn’t get a shake to share with Shiloh?” I heard Keelan ask Creed. I glanced over at Creed to see him glaring at his older brother. “Shut up,” he grumbled. Keelan just smirked.
“Can you blame a girl for looking? Keelan is very pretty.” “Thanks, Shiloh,” Keelan said, his tone hinting that he was amused.
“You’re wearing another man’s jersey, looking hot as hell, and we don’t like it,” Creed said bluntly.
“You matched your underwear to your pajamas?” Creed mumbled tiredly. “I was feeling Wonder Woman vibes this evening and wanted to represent with every layer,” I said as I lay on my side facing Colt.
“You two should go.” They both looked stricken. “If you don’t go now, I’ll grow more attached.” Neither of them moved.
He was quiet for a moment, processing everything. “It doesn’t make me uncomfortable,” he finally said. “It makes me wonder what happened to you that you think you need all of this to feel safe.”
“I would love to go to a restaurant. I, ah…don’t eat fast food,” I admitted sheepishly. “Really?” Keelan asked. “It’s against my religion,” I said, sounding serious. They both went quiet before Keelan turned in his seat to look at me. “What religion is that?” I did my best to hold back my smile. “The one I just made up.”
“What do you mean why?” I asked, feeling exasperated. “If we go down that road, I’ll have to pick one of them, and that will hurt the other.” He scoffed. “They’d never make you choose.”
“They’d have to do some rubbing and massaging and they might even get a little dirty.” The more I talked, the higher his brows rose. For a moment all he did was study me and it was taking all the willpower I had to keep a straight face. I got to bear witness to his lightbulb moment just before his shoulders slumped a little. “You’re talking about kneading pizza dough, aren’t you?” I grinned up at him innocently. “Of course. What’d you think I was talking about?”
