I’d much rather stay in and enjoy some of the classic introverted activities. Like hiding. And reading.
“Not as beautiful as you,” he whispers. “Fuck off with that,” I gasp immediately, unbidden.
“I’ve been dying since then to know what you can do in two hours. For science.”
It’s still too loud for non-shouted conversation, so we go on with kissing, because our mouths say plenty without words.
“You’re the most beautiful part of today.”
“The world is making poor choices, and there’s plenty enough people with business degrees,” says Blake firmly, glancing at me. “We need more readers and artists and creatives. They’re the real visionaries. The rest is just capitalism. And if you really want, you can still take business classes.”
I’m…actually being serenaded? The attention’s embarrassing, yes—but also really fucking romantic.
And it’s totally impossible, because he’s going to leave, and yet he sings to me like I’m the only audience he cares about.
And it hits me that he’s not singing to me—he’s singing for me. Like a promise.
“Gonna fuck you right here if you’re not careful—”
All I can hope is that if he’s back in America, he’s going to that audition. And then hopefully to try to sort things out with his family.
“I saw the way he looked at you, though.” I blink. “The way he looked at me?” “Like you were the only person there.” Ryan considers me thoughtfully. “Like you were the only person that mattered.”
What I want is so clear: Blake. Because, against all odds, I’ve fallen in love. And God help me, I’m going to America to find Blake and tell him that.
Together, there’s no him and no me—there’s just us.
“I love you, Aubrey.” God. This man. “I love you too.”
