For those of you who don’t know, tears – and crying – are scientifically proven to be good for you. Emotional tears release and flush out stress hormones from your body. It’s a self-soothing process that calms the nervous system, and helps your body to rest and digest. Crying dulls the pain you might be feeling by releasing oxytocin and endorphins – these are the ‘feel-good’ hormones that calm you and give you a sense of wellbeing.
