Tagore liked discussing his educational ideas in the weekly assemblies that were regularly held on Wednesday mornings in term-time at Santiniketan. They took place in what was called ‘Mandir’, which can be literally translated from Sanskrit as a ‘temple’, but the assemblies were not ceremonies of any particular religion.
