I have often envied women the wider range of wearing apparel permitted them by society; there have been windy days, for instance, when there was nothing more rational for me to wear on my head than a scarf, but even if I’d gone ahead and worn one (I never have) I know I wouldn’t have looked wonderful in it, I’d simply have looked foolish.
