“This is where I choose to be.” And well, that…that nearly made me cry. He chose to be beside me because he was my friend.
“What you call demanding, I would say is asserting her authority,” Kieran replied.
“Thanks, man.” “Whatever,” the draken replied, stalking forward. “I don’t want the Liessa to be upset.”
“Casteel isn’t the only one that matters,” I told him as we hurried along under the canopy of jacaranda trees. “So do you, Kieran.”
“You’re so very special.” Kieran gave me a half-grin as we edged around the dais. “Very,” Reaver said dryly. I glared at the draken’s back. “Neither of you sound like you think that at all.” “So special,” Kieran added.
and I didn’t know if it belonged to them, me, or if it was a combination of all of us. Kieran said nothing as he pulled away, and the strangest urge to reach out and stop him swept through me. I didn’t understand where that want had come from. Or if it was mine or Casteel’s. And I didn’t know why it felt wrong not to act on it.
She had support. Kieran had been with her. As well as others, but Kieran…yeah, knowing she had him was how I kept the building rage in check.
“And you didn’t think to tell her?” Casteel asked. “Once you realized she didn’t know?” The draken shrugged. Casteel straightened to his full height. While my emotions were too all over the place, his anger was red-hot. “Did you just shrug?” “Yes, he did.” Kieran glared at the draken. “If you’d been around him
longer, that wouldn’t have surprised you.”
“I knew you would get him.” Looking up, I saw the auburn-haired bastard take Poppy’s hand in his and hold it to the gold and steel armor adorning his chest.
“Thinking about something, and then doing it, and then feeling it afterward are three very different things.”
“I feel honored, meyaah Liessa. Humbled.” His lips brushed the corner of mine. “Awed. Relieved. Chosen. Yes, I feel chosen. Loved.” He nipped at my lower lip, sending a bolt of heat through me. “Intrigued.”
