My man, we are having two very different conversations here.
The label is written in very pretty, feminine handwriting, and beside the sender’s name—Daisy Winslow—sits a little smiley face. I don’t know why that makes me smile, but it does. It also makes me shake my head. The woman is a trip.
In an instant, she’s gone, but left in her wake is a smile on my face that stretches from ear to ear. If she gets that adorably worked up over seeing me in a towel through the fucking phone, what’s it going to be like when she’s actually in my apartment, living with me?
“Honey, I’m home!” I exclaim as I walk through the door.
Me: This is Flynn Winslow, Daisy’s husband. It’s time you lose her number. That is, unless you’d like for both of us to join you on the forced “rain check.” If that’s the case, then name the time and place, and we’ll be there.
Fuck yes. That’s my wife.
“You wanted my attention, that much was clear,” he whispers into my ear, and the warmth of his breath urges a shiver to roll up my spine. “So I’m going to tell you again—because it seems like you didn’t really hear me the first time…if you want sex, Daisy, all you have to do is ask.”
“You don’t need to work to get my attention,” he whispers and grabs both of my breasts in his hands. “Because, baby, you always have my attention.”
Me: If you ARE sexting me, then put your money where your mouth is and send me a dick pic.
“Hi, handsome.” I smile up at him. “Was this a coincidental pickup or intentional?” “I didn’t want you to have to deal with the rain.” He leans forward to press a soft kiss to my lips, and then he pops open the umbrella and leads me to the Range Rover with it safely hovering over me.
He just grins like the devil. “And what if the single bridesmaids can’t resist me?” “Oh, they will,” Winnie adds. “Because I’ve already told them you have an incurable venereal disease.” “Jesus, Win.”
The truth is, I think I fell in love with Daisy the first moment I saw her. Some part of me offered to save her because, deep down, I knew she’d save me.
“There will be a night, though. One wild, unexpected night in a seemingly predictable life where you, my sweet boy, will make a pact with a stranger from which there will be great consequence.”
I reach out to place a reassuring hand on Daisy’s still-bouncing knee, and her movements slow to a stop. Her body even tilts toward mine ever so slightly, and my whole chest swells with my smile. I fucking love it.
love her. Everything about her.
Looks like we’re staying in NYC. Though, if LA were where Daisy wanted to be, I’d pack up my shit, sell my apartment, and move without hesitation. I don’t give a shit where we live, as long as we do it together.
“There will be a night, though. One wild, unexpected night in a seemingly predictable life where you, my sweet boy, will make a pact with a stranger from which there will be great consequence.” There’s only one thing Cleo failed to mention that night in her dark, velvet-draped room—that Daisy would be the kind of consequence I would pray will never change.
“No, babe.” Flynn shakes his head. “He gets it. But even if he were pissed, it wouldn’t fucking matter. You and I are a package deal.”
He nods. Smiles. And leans forward to press a soft kiss to my lips. “At the time, I didn’t understand why I wasn’t ready to return them. Now—now, I do.” Be still my beating heart.
I nod and smile. I’m proud as hell to be Daisy’s husband, but that doesn’t mean I’m ready to get chatty with everyone now.
“Well…Daisy…this is Baby A,” Dr. Summers announces, and Ty is the first one to start asking stupid questions. “Baby A? You guys already named your kid?” “And this, right here, is Baby B.” “What’s A-B stand for, Flynn? That some kind of acronym?” Uncle Brad questions, but I’m too busy blinking my eyes one thousand fucking times.
“Uh…um…” Daisy mutters and looks up at me. “W-what did…?” Her eyes shoot back to the doctor. “I’m sorry, but did you just say Baby A and B? As in, t-two babies?” “I did.” Dr. Summers smiles. “You’re having twins.” Instantly, the room erupts into fucking chaos. “Whaaaaaaat?”
Damn, this woman, she’s made my life.
