“But, your ring,” I repeated, trying to fight the melting feeling as he settled me more firmly on his lap so I could concentrate. Why wasn’t he panicking? Had he not noticed it was missing yet? “We… we need to find it, Edward. It’s important. You can’t lose that, too.”
He didn’t just look appreciative as he looked me over, he also looked… proud? Proprietary? Possessive? Some other shiver-inducing P-word?
In any case, the volatile little ball-of-sunshine’s friendship with Rene gave him a lot of leeway with me, and if that was favoritism, so be it.
Sam threw his hands up in the air. “Oh my God, Rene. No! Just because it looks like a Daddy doesn’t mean it is a Daddy!”
