To some, they were crude, rude and socially unacceptable. But I wouldn’t have had them any other way. These were, as much as any investment bankers could be, my people. And there was no doubt in my mind that this unusually forceful product of the Salomon Brothers’ culture could persuade her husband to give me a job.
