"Bonds can heal each other in dire situations, you already know that. Move the fuck on. You just want to argue over every little thing because you don't want to admit that you were wrong about her. Heaven fucking forbid you admit you were wrong. I saw the Resistance get a good look at her, Nox. They knew her. She's been running this entire time and now we know why. They want her because she can do something no other Gifted can do-"
I feel like if I murdered this man right now, I could argue my case in court and have it be counted as justifiable.
I watch as Zoey passes our table, her eyes locking on mine, and I make sure she hears my answer, “They don’t know half of what I can do, Bond. If they did, they wouldn’t dare call me or mine a monster.” The whispers stop immediately. Gutless fucking idiots.
“Then there’s the small fact that the Resistance knew you. You didn’t run away from your Bonds. I’ll bet every last fucking dollar I have that you didn’t. You ran from something else, and when you were dragged back here, you were terrified you’d been tracked. You kept saying it, over and over again. Things will go bad if you’re forced to stay here. Well, we’re listening now, Fallows. Let’s see what’s coming after you.”
“So, just so you know, Sage has accidentally set the building on fire.” North turns to stare at me and snaps, “I hope you’re kidding. That building is two hundred years old and houses over six hundred Gifted Healers!” I nod and say, “Yes, and it’s on fire.”
“You need to give me something. I want to believe you when you say that you did what you had to do… I know that Gryphon believes you, so you’re telling the truth to some degree, but I can’t tell if you’re lying without him around, and he’s made his boundaries with you very clear to me. I was all in before you ran away. I was ready to give you the world and destroy anyone who attempted to hurt you or, fuck, breathe wrong in your direction. You broke that. Give me a reason to believe that you did it because you had no other choice… or that you were unaware that you had them in us.”
