From 2005 to 2020, San Francisco experienced an astonishing 95 percent increase in unsheltered homelessness as the number of permanent supportive housing units offered by the city rose from 6,487 to 10,051.57 Today, San Francisco has the greatest quantity of permanent supportive housing units per capita of any major city in the United States.
