Blood crimes are always paid back in blood tenfold. For making my sister bleed, I made his mother, sister, aunt, and bride bleed.
You’re pretty good at this whole white knight thing, Atlas.” His body goes tense. I lift my head and see a muscle in his cheek tick. “I’m no hero, Ivy. You start thinking like that and you’ll only end up disappointed.” “You can be whoever you need to be out there, but you’ll always be my hero even if the only person you’re saving me from is myself.”
My mama always said, “Never stay with a man who makes you cry more than he makes you laugh.”
Atlas grips the edge of the door as he gets in and Kenzo’s eyes zero in on the red smear, making my stomach cramp. This cannot be happening. “You got a little something on your hand, boss,” he remarks. “Hmm…I know. It was dessert.” “Was it good?” Oh my god. Stop talking. Please stop talking. “Oh yeah but then I always did have a thing for cherries.”
“I hope you know what you’re doing. I like this one.” “So do I, Kenzo. That’s why it has to be this way.” He sighs but he doesn’t disagree. As much as he likes her, I know when it comes down to it, he’ll always have my back. Even if that means hurting Ivy in the process.
“I’m not a good man, Ivy, but I can be good to you.”
“I don’t want to hurt you.” I close my eyes and nod. “I know, but we both know you will anyway. What can I do?” I shrug. “Hold on to me and when you fall, take me with you. I don’t know what love is, Ivy, but if I could ever love anyone it would be you. I just don’t know how to fall.” I smile. “That’s okay. I’ll just pull an Atlas and push you.”
I’ve only been with one man, Atlas. You. I gave you that gift and you just shit all over it by implying you could so recklessly throw it away. If your master plan was to make me fearful of the stalker outside these walls then you fucked up because the only man I’m scared of right now is the one standing in front of me.”
Ivy is far stronger than she realizes. Ivy doesn’t need a hero to carry her away, she needs a villain to cut and slay anyone who stands in her path. Lucky for her, a little blood never bothered me.
“I did not stalk you. More like I professionally pursued you.”
