Interrogated, tortured, stabbed, electrocuted, then finally set aflame. It was a thorough job, one that would have earned a pat on the back—were I the type of person who made fucking childish gestures like that. The hungry flames licked up his body, consuming him, and there was something in his eyes, something akin to gratitude.
For some reason this whole section is italicized in my kindle copy, and I don’t know why.
