“It was disastrous,” I admit. “I didn’t even know my own mind before I spoke. I’m sorry.” Ivar laughs at that. He hasn’t lost the glint of curiosity that he wore for most of the council meeting. “Disastrous? It was magnificent,” he says. “You shoved Father against the wall. I will remember that to my dying day. The face he made!”
Sleep, elskan mín, he told me, so I turned and asked what it meant. And he smiled that lazy smile of deepest satisfaction and said, it means my darling.
“I told you to do what you wanted with me,” he murmurs. “And you did some very, very nice things. That’s all I remember.”
know I won’t ever find another man like him, capable of both calm composure and feral protectiveness, who forgives my own propensities towards excess. Who forgives me for everything. Who says my name with reverence.
“Touch me,” he murmurs. “Take it in your hand.” I whimper as I reach down. My fingertips skid along his length, the veiny mass that’s poised to impale me. “That’s it,” he praises. “Take it… it’s yours.”
“Would you call me your mate?” I mutter to him. “If it was just a question of desire?” He meets my gaze at last, his blue eyes almost white with the intensity in them. I can barely hold that gaze, my fingers tightening between his. “The word implies loyalty,” he murmurs. “And that is something I… have been wanting to give you. My loyalty.”
