I’m not sure any word in the Christian vocabulary has been more misunderstood than freedom. Philosophers parse out two different types of freedom: negative and positive. Negative freedom is freedom from; it’s the removal of any and all constraints on our choices. Positive freedom is freedom for—not just the permission to choose but the power to choose what is good.
