You rarely see this angry tone in Jesus, and when you do, it’s always directed at the religious leaders, who bore a unique culpability in Israel’s spiritual state. You do see Jesus say hard things on a regular basis—uncomfortable things, unpopular things, the kinds of things that eventually got him killed. But most of the time, his tone was tender and wise. Still, unlike the West’s popular definition of love as basically not disagreeing with people, Jesus disagreed with people constantly, in love.
