It was in the run-up to the dot-com boom that companies started to care about their employees. Gone were grey cubicles, vending machines and fluorescent lights. In came bean bags, free lunches and craft beer.

Appeared to care. In return they got workers who spent more time in the office and more dependent on their company and less likely to leave. It is hard to get someone to accept the truth when their job depends on them not accepting it.
