I closed my eyes. I really wasn’t looking forward to dying. Again.
Regenerating wasn’t a walk in the park. The magic, or at least that’s what I thought of it as, didn’t just fix the fatal injury and then stuff my soul back in my body. Nope, it gave my body a complete overhaul. Every cell in my body was repaired; scars disappeared, even the slight signs of aging that occurred between my deaths, and subsequent regenerations, were corrected. Basically, my body was reset to factory settings each time I died. I looked twenty years old after each regeneration. Yep. I was going to add ‘eaten by jaguar’ to my list of ridiculous deaths. I decided that if he was going to eat me, I was going to die trying to pet him. Here kitty, kitty, kitty!
I gasped as the jaguar’s massive head pressed against me. Instantly, I knew what my brain had been trying to tell me. This was Knox. How he was a giant cat, I didn’t have a clue. I died and came back as a streaker, so I certainly wasn’t going to judge him for his level of freakiness. If he wanted to magic himself into a giant cat, I would enjoy having a big kitty to pet. Vibrations rippled through my body as Knox began to purr. Oh yes, I much preferred this version of Knox.
I was going to die. From a beetle with a horrible sense of direction. I wanted to cry. This was going to be more embarrassing than the time I had been knocked in the head by a stray golf ball while working at a mini golf course. Obviously, it hadn’t killed me, but it managed to knock me out. Which wouldn’t have been so bad, except I tumbled into one of the little lagoon themed pools. I bet you can guess where this is going. “Did you see that?” “There’s no doubt about what she is now.” “How is this possible?” “I can’t believe we have a mate that was just killed. By a bug.” “Who cares about the bug? Our mate just died and came back to life! She’s magnificent!”
