Books provided a secret door to escape through – something she had often been grateful for in her life.
Many a time she’d needed somewhere safe and quiet to run to and the library had never let her down.
She often thought about all the times in her life when she had wished for more time and now here she was with oodles of the stuff stretching out before her like it had all been saved up and paid with interest when she needed it least.
Reading was her other escape. Another world she could step into and be surrounded by characters brought to life on the page. She could meet untold people and live a thousand exciting lives through the pages.
He was lost in the no man’s land between the child he was and the man he so longed to be.

They resumed their reading; each delving into other worlds where they could switch off from being themselves and most importantly avoid the things in the real world they could do nothing to alter.
If I’d thought about it we must have looked like a pair of crazies but it was the nicest thing. Being held and comforted by someone. Someone who cared.
There should be better words than sorry for when someone has been wrenched from your life.
