Tears and bloodshed, that’s all this relationship has given me.

Humans should not be able to feel what I have for this woman. Flesh isn’t strong enough to house this much sadness.

“You are better than any dream I had of us.”

There are smears of blood and dust all over her. I’m so tired of seeing her wear this war paint.

“My God,” he utters. His chest expands as he takes in air. And then his mouth descends on mine. And now I have to deal with the very real possibility that I lost my last bit of power, because the king, I think he knows. He knows that I love him.

But hasn't he "known" and been teasing her, trying to get her to admit for like the last book and a half?

I change, making sure to strap my new gun to my outfit.

I feel like at this point she should be way more armed than this at all times. A second gun, extra ammo, and a knife (or 3) can go a long way when one deals with assassination attemps every few days.

Two shots in, the chamber clicks empty.

See... This is what I was talking about. Sure could use another gun or extra ammo right now... 🤔

“You know,” he says, grabbing a roll of gauze, “it was all intentional.” I furrow my brows, not understanding. “How and when you woke up,” he clarifies.

Oh come on now. What a fucking cop out. This was totally unnecessary to the plot and a weak redemption for an MMC who was already neutered at this point.
