“What’s gotten into you?” “My husband—last night. Boom!” She mimed an invisible mic drop.
“I came to ask you out.” “Ask me out? Why?” “Because when a boy likes a girl, he often wants to spend time with her.”
“There’s never enough time when you find the person you’re supposed to be with. So, if you have a shot in hell of finding someone real, someone meaningful, someone that gets inside of you and lights you up, then embrace it. And who fucking cares how it looks. You get one life, Linden. Don’t waste it.”
“Life is messy, my dear. That’s what makes it beautiful.”
“The problem with falling apart is that there’s always a chance you can’t scrape your feelings off the floor and stuff them back in the box where they belong.” “Maybe that’s the problem. What if you let them out instead of getting to the point where they blow up the box you put them in?” “Messy, either way.”
“We’re all broken in some way. If you’re lucky, you might find someone whose broken pieces fit with yours.”
You have to live, Linden. You have to take risks, because if you don’t, then you’ll wake up at the end of your life full of regrets, and a head full of dreams never lived, and that’s a lot worse than dying.”
“Regrets are a waste of time, aren’t they?” “Damn right they are,” he agreed.
“You didn’t get the poor girl a ring?” Darcy asked with a frown at Boxer. “A proposal includes a ring.” “And candles,” Joni added. “And sex,” Rachel added. “Lots of sweaty sex. Linden’s hair doesn’t look at all messed up. Shame on you, Boxer. Shame. On. You.”
“Oh,” I said quietly. “Yeah.” “I’m sorry, Reap.” “Thanks, but that’s not why I told you.” “Why did you tell me?” “To remind you that sometimes life is shit, but shit is just manure, and beautiful things can grow in manure.”
