By 2050 over half the world’s economy will be generated by Asia.25 There will be 10 billion people on the planet by 2050.27 5.2 billion will live in Asia.27 If those 5 billion consumed at the same level as today’s richest billion people their consumption would be 5 to 10 times higher.28, 29 It would be like living on a planet of at least 46 billion people.28, 29 We have seen in this book the damage that our current consumption has caused – imagine the damage that could be done with 10 times the consumption.30 Hence any solutions to save the planet must be led or co-led by Asia.31
