Unfortunately this is the norm for Chicago south side neighborhoods especially those south side nietighboorhoods like Englewood. Although this is a ficticious park there are plenty of lots like this Englewood. There is a grant/initiative to encourage residents to adopt those deserted plots for I believe they can buy it for $1 and plant gardens and other community spaces but it is not enough. even with the development of Whole Foods (Now closed) and other chain stores. That area is still essentially a food dessert.
