An eight pack of abs ripple at me. In my head, I hear my mother’s warning: Don’t stare at the sun, Brooke. You’ll burn your eyes. Yep. Too late, Mom.
“Things are good right here. Right now. Stop looking for a different kind of good.”
Daughter or no daughter, that man kept his eye on you the whole time. And there’s a spring in your step too.” I raise an eyebrow. “I don’t think so.” “Think what you want,” she says. “I’m just calling them like I see them.”
Because Brooke is beautiful even before she smiles at Daisy. When she looks at me, I’m suddenly seeing into the future. I see her in my future. But I can’t do that. Can I?
